Dependent on the Ministry of the Overseas Territories, the Regiment of Adapted Military Service of Martinique is a military system of socio-professional integration for young Martinicans aged 18 to less than 26 years, distant from the labour market. It is based on an educational project and pedagogy that aim to restore young people’s confidence by valuing their actions and developing their taste for effort.
For 6 to 12 months, volunteers who join the regiment receive personalized training and follow-up that enables them to acquire the skills and know-how essential to their professional integration. The RSMA-M recruits every month in more than 30 different courses, training and inserting each year nearly 600 new young people.
As part of the Skills Investment Plan (ICP), the RSMA-M was integrated in 2019 by the Ministry of Labour into the “Pre-apprenticeship” system, which consists of:
- consolidate basic skills that may be insufficient to successfully start learning,
- strengthen interpersonal skills and professional know-how to successfully sign an apprenticeship contract and integrate into the professional world,
- to mature his professional project to prevent the termination of the apprenticeship contract which sometimes occurs during the first weeks.
